As you call the words, circulate the room, keeping an eye on the children’s mats to check
who may or may not be having difficulty.
Correct the exercise using the Six Bricks interactive whiteboard software.
An extension activity would be to have individual children do the calling and rest of the
class marking the called word.
In the early stages you might hold up a tricky word, say it and the children must find its
match on their own boards.
Once the first 6 tricky words are known, dictate the words and have the children write them
down. Correct using the IWB tool.
Continue on a daily / weekly basis extending the range of tricky words that the children
work on until they can correctly and automatically recall them in reading, and write them
from memory.
Eventually they will know all 18 of Tricky Word Bricks 1. Continue working with the whole
class, groups or individuals until all children are able to both read and write their 72 tricky
words.
