Page 44 - Perceptual skills development
P. 44
Six Bricks is a concept that was developed in South Africa, primarily as a tool to
promote the use of concrete manipulatives in early learning. Today, Six Bricks have
spread far and wide and are being used in schools across the world to build perceptual
skills, literacy skills, numeracy skills, physical skills and social-emotional skills. There
are also countless group games and activities that incorporate Six Bricks.
The basic set of Six Bricks consist of six different colours of DUPLO 2X4-stud bricks,
namely a green, a red, an orange, a light blue, a dark blue and a yellow brick.
When the 6 Bricks are formed into a stack in the following colour arrangement, the
stack is referred to as a GROBBY, each letter of the word representing a colour and in
that specific sequence.
There is a growing range of support materials available for Six Bricks that include
software, manuals, educational activity mats, game boards, answer coding mats, a
Grobby Six Bricks storybook and more.
